Is your preschooler ready to practice recognizing the difference between upper and lowercase letters? These Rainbow Upper and Lowercase Letter Puzzles can help your child in a fun and engaging way.

Rainbow Letter Puzzles
Who else loves rainbows? They are so fun, colorful, and happy! Plus, they are one of my favorite parts of St. Patrick’s Day. If you are planning for a St. Patrick’s Day week or spring rainbow lesson plans, this puzzle is the perfect addition!
This puzzle is super easy to prep, too! That is great for us. After printing and cutting the pieces, there isn’t much more that you need to do. I do suggest laminating each piece, to protect it from little hands, but this isn’t required..
Playing With This Puzzle
There are many ways that this activity can be used. What you choose should depend on what level of challenge your child is ready for.
- You can start with 5 sets or you could work with all 26 letters.
- You can choose to mix them up across the table and work with the whole set at one time.
- You can also layout all lower OR uppercase letters, face-up, on the table, and pull the opposite letter type from a pile. This way the child can focus on one letter at a time.
- There is a ton of flexibility here, whatever works for you and your child is what should be done.

Learning About Upper and Lowercase Letters
Learning the difference between upper and lowercase letters is crucial for preschool and kindergarten children. This is one of the first steps that kids need to be able to move forward with reading and writing.
These puzzles are helpful because the pieces that match are the same letter, one uppercase and one lowercase. The rainbow spans across both sides of the puzzle.
Other Ways To Play
- You can start by using them as flashcards. You can hold both pieces up and ask them to identify the letter.
- Turn the cards face down and use these cards as a traditional matching game.
- Make this activity exciting and fun, this will help keep your children engaged and learning more than they actually know!
With these fun puzzle cards, your child is going to love learning their uppercase and lowercase letters!
